Paladins of Non Lawful Good Religions Part II
Considerations of faiths from which they originate and the path they travel to reach the status.
The easiest
group and the second most common are the Exemplars of the lawful neutral faiths
these are remarkably similar to paladins coming up through the same path form
fighter to knight of an order of knights adhering to that faith and thence when
sufficiently honourable to Exemplar who is expected to act as the shinning
example of the faith.
The following
religions commonly produce Exemplars
The Founders
Creation – though unlike the knightly orders who may stand for a particular
city or nation stand to further the advance of civilization throughout Telene
and are forbidden to get involved in such internecine struggles except in the role of peace maker as war between civilized
parties damages civilization. To help with this Exemplars often travel a long
way form their original region of origin to avoid perceived conflicts of
interest.
The Temple of
Armed Conflict – are intended to be the supreme soldier melding intelligence
wisdom and leadership in a perfect mix with extreme martial skill. They are
typically mercenaries like the knightly orders from which they come and do not
form permanent attachments to any particular cause but go from conflict to
conflict. They are not bared form fighting each other any more than the knights
of the order of the pike are or any priest or follower of the faith thought
they are required to act most honourably during such conflicts.
The other lawful
neutral faiths have on occasion but since the religions in question are of a
much less martial bent and support few if any knightly orders they are
vanishingly rare. Generally arising only when the deity believes its interests
most at dire risk in a region
Considerations of the abilities granted.
What granted
abilities do they get well it varies from faith to faith but on the whole they
resemble those of paladins quite closely all gain the ability to lay on hands thought
the ability generally only works on those anointed into the faith and almost
never on those of a chaotic bent. The few exemplars of temple of the three strengths
ability to heal greatly exceeds that of both the others and of paladins being
able also to cure diseases at a touch as well as close up wounds.
Other powers are
rather more variable the exemplars of the temple of armed conflict gain a +1
bonus to their choice of attack speed, damage or defence with any weapon of their
choice when they become such and may purchase the specialisations for any weapons
as if they where knightly ones. Exemplars of the Founders creation can intimidate
chaotic creatures as a paladin intimidates evil ones and may turn the adherents
of chaotic gods as if they where undead like wise they are some what vulnerable
to being turned in their stead by the priests of chaotic faiths but unlike the
priests of evil faiths being able to turn paladins this is not wide spread
knowledge. They have other granted powers as paladins do but this gives an idea
of what they might have if you want to use them as protagonists in your game
and which I will develop further when I want to include them directly in mine.
