Count up clock some thoughts
The count up clock is possibly quite the hardest concept to get your head round in HackMaster especially if you are more used to the traditional combat round for role playing games, even if when you are used to it it seems hard to remember why you found it so hard so much second nature does it become.
A large number of systems have been designed to make this easier but all of those I have tried tend to complicate it in my opinion, this may be me as I am I freely admit Dyslexic and find some things wheich are designed to be easy a bit hard some times.
So I was relying on the initial method of a pencil and a scrap of paper to keep track of the count and having the players do the mild mental arithmetic needed to work out when they acted next. However it also occurred to me that it would be better for Demo purposes especially to have a a more visual method and remembered these in the Spirit Games which are stand playing card sized cards with a number on one side and blank on the other so they run from 0-100 and will fit in one of the Mayday card sleeves I cant remember which size of the top of my head and I was going to as them as a visual count up clock turning a card with every second. Granted they only go up to a hundred but that is a long time in a HackMaster fight in my experience as most either don't last that long or if they do will have distinct lulls in them which would easily justify restarting the count.
Well I am going to give them a try tomorrow at the Demo Game.and will report back
They are available here and at £2.50 a go are hardly going to break the bank even if you don't like the idea after trying it out
