A Little Magic shop
Vayham has a magic shop, though its not quite
what you would think from the name alone, as it is mostly a s copying shop and
book binders producing books and other documents which operates out of a
building on a back street near the towns north gate and sells the books and
other documents it produces from a stall in the great market. The
scriptorium employs several gifted scribes, illustrator’s illuminators and book
binders supported by a sizable company of assistants and apprentices. The shop
keeps a library of several hundred volumes on all manner of subjects which it
will reproduce for the paying customer. The shop will also for a small fee
publish manuscripts for a writer as there is a small literate community in
Vayham who are always eager to buy a new book. If the book sells then a
percentage of the profit will go to the author. A certain amount of scribe work
is also done but this tends to be at the high end, title deeds bonds bills of
sale, rather than the routine writing of letters between illiterate parties and
going here for that will get you directed to one of the several scribes near by
or in the great marked, who specialize in that part of the trade.
However to those that need them it sells
material components for many low level spells as well as providing
transcription inks and good quality vellum for spell books. Its owner Avron
Marn is a southerner from Mendarn apparently who is by repute at least a wizard
and even if he is not does seem to have a good working knowledge of things
arcane and the coin to trade in magic items and genuine ones at that even if
most are of the less powerful or limited use sort. His stock is small and as
you would expect quite pricy and he seldom offers any great discounts on his
sales and haggled hard over the materials he purchases. Any complaints are met
with quiet reason and a certain confidence that his is the only place for miles
around where such items and materials may be bought or sold so in the end you
either take his price or go without.
He also has been known to act as a contact for
those seeking bespoke enchanted items however this is a slow and expensive
process as the few enchanters who will take on such work are mostly in cities
far away from here.
